DIFFERENCES BETWEEN STAMPED & STENCILE CONCRETE PATIOS

Both of these techniques are considered decorative and give the concrete a distinctive finish. However, there are many differences between the two techniques. Stamping occurs before the concrete has set.
Because there is a finite amount of time involved in the setting of concrete, stamping requires careful planning and efficient execution to obtain the desired look. Flexible polyurethane forms, or stamps, are used to imprint a pattern on the surface of the concrete.
Generally, a stamped patio is better for exterior concrete surfaces because it will hold up better against weather elements. Concrete stencils in contrast are more forgiving and easier to work with than stamps. Stenciling occurs after the concrete has been poured and dries. Stencils consist of overlays that are essentially stenciled into the concrete with the use of stains, dyes, paints, etc.
